At First Baptist Church New Roads, we believe even our youngest children can take their first steps in faith in a loving and safe environment. First Steps ministry provides a secure, nurturing space for infants to 3 year olds where every child is cared for with the love of Christ.
For our 2-3 year olds, 1st Toddlers offers a special Sunday School class beginning at 9:15 where little ones begin to explore faith through fun games, engaging play, and age-appropriate Bible stories – and yes, there are snacks too!
We’re committed to helping your child feel safe, loved and excited to come to church each week. At First Steps your baby is more than welcome – they’re family.
First Kids ministry is all about helping children build a lasting love for Jesus in a way that’s fun, exciting, and age-appropriate.
Through play time, worship, hands-on activities, and snacks, kids in PreK-4th grade experience the joy of learning about God in a welcoming and energetic environment.
Whether it’s through a creative craft, an upbeat song, or a Bible story brought to life, every moment is designed to help your child grow in faith, build friendships, and feel at home in church.
Our facility is thoughtfully equipped to support children with special needs. Kids are welcome to be included in our main activities, or if they prefer, they can enjoy a calm space in our custom-designed sensory room, created specifically for children with sensory sensitivities.
At First Kids, every child belongs – and every child is a blessing.
Meet the Director
A’na Huckabaa
A’na Huckabaa brings a heart full of love and a wealth of experience to her role as the Children’s Ministry Director at First Baptist Church New Roads. Before stepping into full-time ministry, A’na spent many years as a dedicated teacher in the local school system as well as the Centre for the Arts, where she helped children discover their creativity and confidence through the arts.
Her passion for both children and Jesus shines through in everything she does. Whether she’s leading a Sunday morning Bible story, coordinating a major church event, or comforting a child with special needs, A’na goes above and beyond to ensure every child feels seen, loved, and connected to Christ.
A’na is also the local advocate for Joni & Friends, an international organization that serves individuals and families impacted by disabilities. Through this role, she champions inclusion, provides training and resources for our volunteers, and helps create environments where children with special needs can thrive – whether they prefer to be part of the larger group or benefit from time in our custom-designed sensory room.
With A’na’s leadership, our Children’s Ministry continues to grow in joy, faith, and impact – always pointing young hearts toward Jesus.
